Who we are:
Mead is mankind’s oldest fermentation. It has roots in every culture on the planet, playing roles in medicine, religion, love, and, of course, cuisine from Addis Ababa to Yucatan peninsula. In Europe, mead making stayed in regional communities, never truly connecting with the industry which would bring beer and wine to the masses. It remained an intimate object shared between close friends, neighbors, family… Because of this, mead makers kept to their local roots, making it a rare and mysterious beverage to the uninitiated.
The European Mead Makers Association is a growing web between these local traditions, turning a patchwork of regional differences into a unique and creative cultural tapestry across the continent. We represent X professional mead makers in X amount of countries, united in growing our communities of artisans and drinkers, nurturing the passion for mead in its ancient and modern forms. Through our organization, we aim to provide tools for amateurs learning the craft, as well as resources for professional needs like connecting mead makers with beekeepers and honey producers, national and international distributors, and local groups looking to spread awareness and hold public events. With these initiatives and the talent and artistry of our community, we will help mead grow from its unique niches in European culture into a broadly celebrated and appreciated craft.
Our Values
