European Mead Makers Association Announces Launch Of Real Mead™ Certification
One of the biggest problems faced by beekeepers and mead makers alike is competing against cheaper, adulterated products that pretend to have the value of the real thing, offered at cut rate prices. As there has been a growth in honey-based beverages of questionable origin over the past years, EMMA has long made it a goal to draw attention and create tools to help mead makers better communicate the true artisanal spirit and quality ingredients with which their fermentations are made.
Inspired by similar movements in beer and wine, the European Mead Makers Association is pleased to announce the creation of a certificated label program, the Real Mead™ Certification. This label is based on traceability and authenticity, so that consumers know they are purchasing a mead, fermented from real and unadulterated honey. This is an indispensable tool for distinguishing mead from the large amount of alcoholic drinks using cheap and questionable honey as a sweetener.
Mead makers have the choice of certifying by each individual mead or their entire meadery, with price points reflective of the small scale production in most meaderies. As either a first-time or existing EMMA member, mead makers applying for the certification will also be offered discounted pricing for certification and membership. All certifications will be processed by EMMA members familiar with these kind of processes.
Real Mead™ Certification marks a first, significant step forward in the protection and promotion of authentic mead production. The program not only empowers consumers to make informed choices but also supports the artisans dedicated to crafting genuine honey-based beverages, from hive to glass. Apply today to ensure that the rich tradition and quality of mead making are preserved and celebrated for generations to come.
